In today’s industry one of the biggest obstacles independent musicians face is figuring out the best way to do music marketing. What tools should be used? Is Facebook or Twitter better? How can they get people to stop and take interest in what they’re doing? All are great questions, but I would go as far to say that best thing you can do as an independent musician is stop marketing your music!
As artists it’s really easy to fall into the “let me just create” head space. We feel we don’t have time to do all of that “other stuff” in order to become successful at or craft. Last week we started the conversation, but let’s dig a little deeper this week as we talk about ways to make it in today’s music industry.
Let’s be honest, it’s super depressing when we talk about today’s music industry. Every article you read or interview you watch is filled with negative dialog. It makes you to believe Armageddon has descended upon us and we are stuck in the ashes it left behind. Where is the hope? The excitement? Well, even if I’m the only one who is going to say it, I will, but I truly believe that it is the best time to be in the music industry. I would even go as far to say that I believe you can make a good living creating music today. Here’s how…
