Dreaming of Something New

It’s a new year. A fresh start.

When I was thinking about what I wanted to accomplish in 2017 I decided that instead of creating a handful of resolutions that I probably wouldn’t stick with, I was going to choose a word for the year instead. I had never done this before so I didn’t really have any rules to follow, I just wanted to find a word that would act as a guide through the adventures of the new year.

I spent some time thinking and writing out ideas. I ask God for wisdom and clarity because I wanted it to actually mean something. Then, as the ball began to drop on 2016 I simply made a decision.

NEW…

My word for this year is new. If you have been reading my blog for very long you know 2016 was a little rough. My life was flipped upside down as I was forced to pick up the shattered pieces and figure out how to move forward. I needed to create a new life. A new identity. A new way of thinking about myself, God, and those around me. I needed to be new.

So, as I step into 2017 I am choosing to let new be my motto. I’m not sure where it will lead me or the crazy awesome paths it will take me, but I’m ready. Bring it on 2017!

New Music

Today’s track is all about dreaming of something new. As you listen to it spend some time thinking about the year ahead of you. What do you want to see happen? What do you want to change? To make better? Take some time to write it down as we all begin the journey of what 2017 has to offer. Enjoy…

Challenge

Join me in choosing a word for the year. Spend some time thinking and writing out some ideas, then pick one. Put some thought into it and make sure it means something to you. Then let it act as a guide for you this year. Will you join me? If so, comment below with the word you choose.

Happy New Year! Let’s make 2017 amazing.

“For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness. I will create rivers in the dry wasteland.” Isaiah 43:19

  1. My word for the year is Focus.

I spread myself pretty thin, I think that is a common problem in our society today. I am going to do my best to own it and focus on what I want to do and who I want to do it with. I’ve spent the last few years poking a lot of shallow holes, hoping to gain insight from that and dig a bit deeper this year.

Great first track. Proud of you and always inspired by how talented you are, brother.

    1. Man, that’s a good word. I love the heart behind it…so true and so needed. Thanks for sharing.

  2. This was a great challenge. As I’ve listened to your anointed music and pondered your inspiring blog, I feel my word for 2017 is HOPE.

    1. Hope is a good one. I like it. Thanks for sharing mom!

  3. So . . years ago, during what seened like another life altogether, I would sit at the kitchen table and play guitar. Back then I had the time to spend an hour or two a day going back and forth between my coffee, my guitar, my journal and my thoughts. I’ve never fully been able to recapture that feeling – until now. it was like I was praying . . . and as my fingers found the strings . . .their tone singing through and out of the body of that guitar . . .well man, it was like HE was answering me. I hear your playing and it’s like I’m sitting there again. At the table. Praying. . .and listening . . . to His answer. Man. Whew. Much agape brother. Thank you.

    1. Lincoln, I’m not sure I could have asked for a greater compliment. Wow…thank you. If I could sum up what I want my music to be about it would be exactly what you described. Thanks for sharing that.

  4. So great man. Love it. This post was confirmation I need to get my word for the year rolling. Mine is REST. I want to be in this for the long haul and my striving needs rest to be at it’s strongest. Thank you for this and your beautiful song. I freakin love it.
