As I sat down at the computer this week I didn’t want to be there. I didn’t feel creative, I was tired, and if I’m really honest with you, I was struggling with imposter syndrome. It didn’t help that my day job had been kicking my butt and when you add all of that up it didn’t add up to a creative studio session.
Driving home I came up with every excuse to not spend time creating. I felt it was going to be a waste of my time and anyone else’s time who decided to join the live stream. “It’s not worth it,” I thought. “Just give in and no one will know the difference.” But then I had the thought that forced me to show up.
The creative process is not something that happens when we feel like it. We can’t wait around for inspiration to strike we have to step in and show up. Day after day, week after week we must choose to show up, to create when we’re not inspired. It’s difficult but it’s necessary.
This is what I did this week, I chose to show up. It wasn’t perfect. It wasn’t pretty. But I showed up and that’s what it takes in this crazy life of creativity.
Hopefully, in some kind of weird way, this is an inspiration to you in your creative journey. No matter what just keep showing up. Keep pushing forward. We got this!!
Question: What do you do when you don’t feel like creating?
